The Bouleuterion of Miletus was established between 175 and 163 B.C. as a foundation of the Milesian brothers Timarchos and Herakleides in the name of King Antiochos IV Epiphanes of Syria. The approximately 35 x 24 metre marble building was preceded by a magnificent inner courtyard surrounded by a three-sided stoa. One entered the courtyard through a representative gate building in the form of a podium temple. In the middle of the courtyard was an altar dedicated to the emperor. |
