Gordion Müzesi | |||
Opposite the big tumulus ("Midas Tumulus") at the entrance of the village Yassıhöyük is the Gordion Müzesi. This small local museum was founded in 1963. The number of visitors has risen considerably in recent years, making a significant expansion necessary. This includes a new warehouse of 180 m², an additional exhibition hall of 150 m², a laboratory of 30 m² and an information hall of 35 m² as well as the new exhibition area of 5000 m² outside. The newly excavated area was planted with seedlings of cedar, juniper, boxwood, yellow pine, walnut and yew, which were used by the Phrygians to make furniture. |

Today, the Gordion Museum houses a chronological exhibition in which each epoch is represented by characteristic examples. For example, handmade pottery from the early Iron Age, iron tools from the early Phrygian period and tools for textile production are on display. Furthermore, imported ceramics from Hellenistic and Roman times are exhibited. |
